Australian Shepherd Breed Review by Erin

Australian Shepherds are high energy dogs that require space to run and owners who live an active lifestyle. My Aussie is great with my two young boys, he is loyal, affectionate, and highly trainable.

We have a 2 year old female and she is a full member of the family. Aspen is all energy and fun during the day. Loves to play fetch and run in the woods. At night she turns into a cuddle dog. She is protective and loyal. Aspen is smart as a whip. She learns a new trick in an hour or two. She is very obedient.

We drove up from Norfolk, VA to Lancaster PA to pick up Arrow (renamed Sherlock) from the Lapp Family (Daniel Lapp). We were greeted by his wife and Arrow....we had my 3 year old grand daughter with us. It was a great experience, very lovely puppy and we could see they were all loved and cared for. Arrow's mother was about the property and didn't cause any issues as some will when their pups are leaving the litter. Beautiful, well kept farm and grounds and the pups had already had interactions with small children which is HUGE plus since I have two grand kids that will be around the puppy as well. He did wonderfully on the 6 1/2 hour drive home ( had to add several stops for breaks for us and the pup). Should we decide to add another Aussie we will definitely reach out to the Lapp family and Greenfield puppies again! ...

I have owned a blue Merle and a red tri. They are my favorite breed. So loyal and so smart. My only concern is I am 76 and have chronic back pain that really control how much stamina and energy to give an Aussie enough exercise and proper trying. I have also owned 2 boxers. My next favorite breed. In fact I love them both equally. I really can’t say which love mot. Again it’s an issue of can I give the proper playtime and training. I know I have plenty of love to give.

I have had 3 Aussies over 23 years. I have 2 right now. They are the most loyal of dogs, bright, happy, beautiful but do require alot of grooming. The shedding is horrific and you have to clean up alot of hair. Even with that, I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Greenfield Puppies

Despite their name, the Australian Shepherd is a breed of dog believed to have been developed in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. They were used for herding livestock. They have many other talents including retrieving, working as guard dogs, police work, search and rescue, and narcotics detection. The Australian Shepherd comes in three sizes, Standard, Toy, and Miniature. The Standard Australian Shepherd is over 18” tall. The smaller sizes were bred beginning in 1968. The Standard Australian Shepherd was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1991. This affectionate dog is cheerful and puppy like into adulthood. Eager to please, intelligent, and easy to train, these pups needs lots of activity to prevent them from becoming bored. If left alone for too long, they can become destructive while trying to occupy themselves. With proper training, they are good with children and make a great family pet. Grooming is easy with weekly brushings.
