My boy, is 2 to 3 years old. I rescued him 6 months ago. I really love this breed. There are several behavioral issues with him. He is extremely needy. Has slight food aggression and protective. BUT he absolutely loves cuddling and he is very alert and makes a great guard dog. He likes to sleep and doesn't tear anything up. He does have separation anxiety. He has a high hunting drive tho so never can a beagle be trusted for even a second unleashed or you will be chasing him.the good definitely out weighs the bad.

We got our beagle 4 years ago from a shelter(she was 4 at the time). One of the best decisions was choosing the beagle to join our family. She's loving and affectionate, especially when we have house guests and their children. She also loves walks and seeing other doggie friends. She is ruled by three things: her nose, her gut, and attention. We wouldn't trade her in for the world. When something happens to her, we're getting another beagle.

Of the 4 dogs I have had, the beagle, is by far, the best, especially in a family setting. They love kids, have minimal shedding and are joyful in demeanor. The only significant detractor is their tendency to follow their nose and have an independent streak when outdoors. In my estimation, they are easily trained with the command/ reward system. As a family pet, they are extremely loving to all family members...I would heartily recommend the beagle to anyone who desires funny loving breeds. Not just a hunting dog... If you get one, you will have a friend for life...

Beagles are the best dogs you can own, they are playful and energetic. I have two and they are the cutest dogs you can own. Just make sure you keep them in a fenced yard are they will catch a scent and run off.
