Bernamute Breed Review by Wendy Benson
I am a current parent for a just turned 2 year old Rescued Bernamute male named Duke. My husband and I have had other dogs in our lifetimes but, we both say that Duke is the best dog we've ever had. We got him when he was 16 weeks old from our local Humane Society who had rescued him and his three sisters from an Amish puppy mill. He had a stapled laceration on his side so we had to give him pain meds and antibiotics from day one. He healed beautifully and very slowly overcame his fear of us and I'm convinced he believes himself to be part of our 3 cat pack.I love big dogs and Duke does not disappoint in that area. He weighed 99 lbs last fall and has filled out since then. He's so big that his back almost reaches my hip! He is our big bundle of love. I have Fibromyalgia and am unable to work and my husband works from home so Duke has all the loves and hugs he wants. He's really awesome at communicating with us. He has different barks/vocalizations plus if you say the word he is trying to communicate, his ears go up lol. He's got the best personality and very easy to train. Affection works just as good as treats to reaffirm good behavior. In my humble opinion, a Bernamute is the best breed of dog to have. I would adopt another one in a heartbeat! He's just the best dog.
