Situated on a 25-acre farm on the eastern tip of the beautiful Pequea Valley, Sylvan and his wife, Barbie, operate Barbie’s Puppies LLC, where they have been breeding dogs for over 10 years. The 1810 estate was part of a 300-acre land grant, and is currently being remodelled. They and their seven children raise Mini Australian Shepherds and Blue Heelers. The puppies begin the socialization process very early with the children handling them and playing with them regularly. In addition, the dogs come out for exercise twice a day and are exposed to plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Both sires and dams are onsite. They roam the farm freely including Rusty, their sire. He is the quintessential farm dog, and he sleeps in the house. He is registered with ASDR (American Stock Dog Registry), and their breeding females are dual registered with ACA (American Canine Association) and ASDR.

Sylvan likes the Mini Australian Shepherd due to its great herding abilities. These dogs tend to be energetic, playful, and very intelligent which makes it easier to train them. The Blue Heeler is also a great breed with natural herding instincts. Both breeds will work anywhere, and they have sold a few that were going to do shows. He finds that these two breeds will really bond to a person or family, and they always stay around making them good companion dogs who like to be at your side.

Sylvan and Barbie ensure that their puppies are always vet checked and up to date on all vaccines and deworming prior to going to their new forever homes. They prefer a more holistic approach to raising their puppies and use a combination of commercial and herbal supplements to support their puppies’ immune systems. Each puppy goes to its new home with a sample bag of the food they use and herbal supplements as well.

One piece of advice Sylvan would give to new owners is to learn as much as you can about the breed and make sure you are ready to provide the physical activity level and mental stimulation these breeds need to stay healthy, happy and well adjusted. We had a wonderful experience with Sylvan and Barb Stoltzfus. We have had our Lizzie (Bubbles) for two months now. She is very healthy and sweet natured. She was obviously cuddled and well socialized by the Stoltzfus children as she is a snuggly, happy 4 month old now. Thanks for this sweet girl. We are completely in love with her.

We recently purchased a Miniature Australian Shepherd (Pirate) from the Stoltzfus and couldn't be happier. This is the first time that we purchased a puppy online and I had some concerns at first. However, after speaking with Sylvan on multiple occasions, we decided to move forward with adopting (purchasing) Pirate. Sylvan was always accommodating and willing to answer my questions.When we picked up Pirate from the airport, we expected a 'small' airline pet carrier, like all the other puppies came in. However, Pirate came in the largest pet carrier and had plenty of room to move and be comfortable during his flight.We also have another dog at home (Black Lab) and were concerned about how the two dogs would interact with each other. Our concerns were quickly alleviated, as Pirate was extremely social (due to the way that the Stoltzfus socialize their dogs) and just 'loves' our other dog and follows him around like a little brother.We highly recommend the Stoltzfus for your puppy purchase. BTW... the family couldn't be happier with our new member of the family.
