Originating in France, the Dogue de Bordeaux is also known as the French Mastiff. They are thought to have descended from the Bulldog, Tibetan Mastiff, and Greek and Roman Molossus. This breed has been used for such tasks as hunters, herders, protectors, fighters, and could haul heavy objects. They have a very good guarding instinct without the aggressiveness, actually having a rather calm and peaceful temperament. This loyal and affectionate companion dog is great with children. The Dogue De Bordeaux is best with an experienced dog owner who can confidently assert their leadership over their pup. Very little grooming is needed for their coat, which ranges from light fawn to a dark red. Regular brushing is needed. The Dogue De Bordeaux was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2008.
