Entlebucher Mountain Dog Breed Review by Norman

Entlebucher Mountain Dog Breed Review by Johanna Griffin

High energy, high maintenance. Responsible breeders of this breed can be found through http://nemda.org/.The gene pool of the breed is so small that it is hard to find correct genetic matches. Look for responsible breeders that screen for common genetic diseases in this breed like PRA and hip dysplasia, or Entlebucher Urinary Syndrome. Most breeders end up losing money if they breed, give proper veterinary care, show to have their dogs evaluated by third parties (and breed sound animals) and screen responsibly. Beware of any puppy mill like breeders that have multiple breeding bitches and multiple litters at any given time. It’s important to make sure that this little herder is compatible with your personality and lifestyle, as this is a dog that will be happiest if it is by your side every waking hour. The Entlebucher, while being independent and self confident, is nonetheless very attached to its people and must be made a part of the family. One of the greatest qualities of this breed is its unwavering devotion to its master. This is not a breed that will do well if left in the back yard, unless, of course, that is where the family is as well. The breed is territorial and slightly suspicious of strangers, making it a competent watch dog. They have an impressive bark and naturally announce the arrival of newcomers. While they are naturally confident and social dogs, socialization and training is required.

Entlebucher Mountain Dog Breed Review by Maggie

Entles are smart, intelligent, courageous and very protective of their home and master! They can be stubborn but are easily trained with the right owner! I do not recommend this breed for a first time owner of a dog. This is a strong willed breed and the more knowledge you have of dogs is a must with entlebuchers!!

Entlebucher Mountain Dog Breed Review by Jonathan Millis

If you are looking for a smart, active, family dog, the Entle is for you. They do need a lot of attention, but they give back so much love and are wonderful with children. They are very vocal, so are a great watch dog.

Originating in a valley called Entlebuch in the district of Cantons Lucerne & Berne, the Entlebucher Mountain Dog is the smallest of the four breeds of tri-color mountain dogs. Their coats are symmetrically marked white on black with additional markings in shades ranging from fawn to mahogany. These high energy pups have often been used to herd cattle in the Swiss Alps. They are very loyal and eager to please. These dogs are very protective of their family and cautious around strangers, making them great guard dogs. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2011.
